Google has unveiled a new feature on Android called Sound Notifications that provides push notifications to notify users of critical sounds around them. Now Android smartphones will hear ‘critical’ sounds like smoke alarms, barking dogs, or a baby crying, and it’ll then notify the user through a push notification. Google announced the news through a blog post on Thursday.

This accessibility feature is primarily designed for over 466 million people globally with hearing loss. Hearing-impaired users and the users who are wearing earplugs will be highly benefitted from this, as the Sound Notifications feature will send an alert to their phone whenever the smoke alarm sounds, dogs bark, or the baby starts crying.

Sound Notifications Features, Working, And More

The new accessibility feature is an extension of Google’s Live Transcribe service that allows users to see live transcripts of conversations. This feature shows more than 30 sound events and provide real-time captions alongside. The good thing about this feature is that it works completely offline and without the internet. It just uses the device’s microphone to recognize different noises and critical sounds. The ‘critical’ sounds include the barking of a dog, smoke/fire alarm, door knocking, baby crying, and more.

Sound Notifications feature is available on Android smartphones and Wear OS smartwatches. It will provide vibrations directly on your wrist, in case of the Wear OS smartwatch, so that you can stay vigilant when you’re incapable of hearing outside sounds for some reason, including sleep. Google product managers Sharlene Yuan and Sagar Salva wrote in the blog post, “While we can notify you about baby sounds or dog barking, it often helps to know more about the preceding events that might have caused that disturbance.” The feature also keeps a record of the detected sounds from the past few hours, and users can scroll through a brief snapshot of them with the Timeline view.

To use Sound Notifications, first, go to the Settings on your Android phone and then enable the Sound Notifications feature in the Accessibility menu. If there is no such option in your phone settings, you can download both Live Transcribe and Sound Notifications from the Google Playstore. After this, go to the settings again to turn on Sound Notifications.

How to Transfer Contacts from Android to Android Phone

How to Transfer Contacts from Android to Android Phone

The majority of the population owns android smartphones as they have the advantage to choose their device from diverse brands and manufacturers. And this is the foremost reason why Android users change their devices so frequently. As an average, people change their smartphones every 7-8 months or so. This makes it very difficult to transfer crucial information to new devices such as photos, contacts, messages, and so on.

Transferring all the contacts from your old Android phone to a new Android phone is the challenge almost all of us face from time to time. But do not worry, as there are simple methods to transfer contacts from an android to android phone, which we will discuss today.

If you wish to transfer your contacts from the old device to your new device, then there are two methods you can try. The first one is straightforward, but you might lose some contacts which are saved locally. The other method includes making a local backup copy and transferring it to the new device. So let’s check out both the approaches.

Method 1: Sync your Contacts via Google Account

Google provides us with lots of unique and useful features, which also includes contact syncing. If your contacts are synced with Google Account, then you can access your contacts on any Android device, just by logging into your Google Account.

Even more, by default, the contact syncing feature is enabled in all Android devices. So there are no extra steps involved to enable Google syncing on your smartphone.

Note: Ensure that your Data is on. The transfer may take a while for all your contacts to sync up. So give it some time. After that you can open up the contacts, and you will find that all the previous contacts have been synced to your new Android Device.

Method 2: Transfer Contacts via VCF File

If, for some reason, you aren’t comfortable transferring your Contacts via Google Account syncing you can use a VCF file to transfer your Contacts to another Android device. However, first, you will have to create a VCF file. To do so, open up the Contacts application.

Step 1: Click on the three vertical dots to open up the contact menu. Then from the menu, select the settings option. The steps might vary from one model to another.

Android Contact Transfer

Step 2: Click on the Export option to export all your current contacts in a VCF file. Now you can transfer the VCF file to your other Android device via Bluetooth or an email.

Android Contact Transfer

Step 3: Now switch to your new smartphone and open the Contacts app. Click on more options to bring the Contact Menu, there select Manage Contacts from the menu. Now, click on the Import button, then locate the path to your internal memory where you have kept the VCF file.

Step 4: Select the contacts.vcf file and open it, click on the OK button to unpack the VCF file, and transfer all the contacts to your Android device.

Conclusion

As you see, transferring contacts takes just a few minutes from your busy schedule. The best way to transfer contacts is by Google account automatic sync, but sometimes it may miss some of your contacts. So try method two if you don’t see all of your contacts on your new phone.

Pokemon Sword and Shield to Debut Kalos Region

Pokemon Sword and Shield battle arena

The Kalos region is the most popular area in the world of Pokemon games. It was the first region depicted in the Pokemon anime. Further, it is also the region where the original trilogy of pokemon games was set in. Hence, whether it a veteran or a newbie the Kalos region has a special place in the hearts of Pokemon fans. And this fan-favorite location might be coming to the Pokemon Sword and Shield game.

Fans have always wanted the popular region to appear in the game. However, the game has received two DLCs in a year since its launch without any hint of the above. But players now believe that Game Freak might just fulfill their wishes. Even Junichi Masuda allegedly teased the arrival of Kalos in Pokemon Sword and Shield with this tweet.

Pokeman

Why Kalos will appear in Pokemon Sword and Shield?

It is common knowledge for any major Pokemon fan that the Galar region is based on the Great Britain region. On the other hand, the Kalos region is based on France. Hence, it gives a geographical reason for the two regions to be connected in-game. However, the reason goes beyond this.

The addition of the Kalos region in Pokemon Sword and Shield also gives a way to complete the unfinished story from Gen 6’s Pokemon X and Y. The unnamed region for the war from Pokemon X and Y can be Kalos region, given its sheer importance in the world of Pokemon. Finally, the unused train station in Couriway Town’s Kalos region allows a way to connect the two regions.

The train station cannot be used by the player throughout the game. And we don’t receive any explanation for this. With trains being a common way to travel for trainers in the Galar region, it will make sense if the train station represents a connection between the two regions.

Amazon introduced new technology to make transactions, Amazon One on September 29, 2020, that allows a person to make payments by hovering a palm over the scanner.

This palm recognition technology aims to provide a fast, convenient, and contactless way to make payments by hovering a palm over a scanner in departmental stores, offices, stadiums, etc,. So, we can say this technology will turn your palm into your credit card.

However, this palm-recognition technology will take a bit of time to be available everywhere. As of now, it’ll be available in Amazon Go retail stores in Amazon’s hometown Seattle, Washington D.C. Later on, it’ll available in other Amazon Go retail stores.

How does Amazon One payment technology work?

Amazon One palm-recognition technology works in three simple steps:

  1. Everyone’s palm is unique, so this technology makes use of tiny, distinct features indiscernible to the human eye or a standard camera such as lines and ridges and vein patterns on and below the surface of the palm.
  2. Then a process of proprietary imaging and computer vision algorithms capture and encrypt the image of the palm.
  3. After that, it uses the information embedded in the palm and creates a unique palm signature. This palm signature can be read every time you hover your palm over the scanner.

Moreover, all the credentials are encrypted on Amazon’s cloud server. Not only that, customers are free to delete their Amazon One-related data permanently anytime.

“A quick, reliable, and secure way for people to identify themselves or authorize a transaction while moving seamlessly through their day.” Says Dilip Kumar, Vice President, Amazon.

Many companies were trying to create palm recognition biometrics, but only Amazon has brought it to reality.

Why palm recognition technology over biometrics?

Dilip Kumar, Vice President, Amazon answered this question by saying “One reason was that palm recognition is considered more private than some biometric alternatives because you can’t determine a person’s identity by looking at an image of their palm”

Apart from that, payment will be made only if the person hovers the palm intentionally over the scanner. More information about this service is available on Amazon’s blog.
