OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Sale In India Postponed

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Sale In India Postponed

Smartphone maker OnePlus has postponed its OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro sale in India. The company said that it had to alter its sales plan after production was halted temporarily last week due to COVID-19. The sales were supposed to start on May 29 on Amazon India and OnePlus sites. The sale is currently postponed indefinitely and no new dates are revealed yet. Users who have pre-booked the phones on Amazon or via OnePlus sites will only be able to purchase the device when stocks become available.

However, there will be a special limited sale across online and offline channels for just the OnePlus 8 smartphone. Now the smartphone will go on sale with limited stock on May 29 at 12 PM IST.

This postponement of sales was announced through a post on OnePlus forums. It could be because of the sudden halt of the Oppo manufacturing plant in Greater Noida. Six workers were tested COVID-19 positive at the manufacturing plant last week. OnePlus is reported to assemble its phones in the same factory and the suspension could have impacted the smartphones’ sales plan in India. However, in its forums’ post, the company has also said that the ‘production is already up and running’, which could mean a new sale date should be announced soon.

Both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones were launched in April. The company started pre-bookings of both the phones on Amazon India. OnePlus held a special sale for OnePlus 8 on May 18 and had then announced the full-fledged sale for both the phones to begin from May 29.

Price of OnePlus 8

As said above, the company is organizing a special sale of the OnePlus 8 smartphone on May 29 at 12 PM. For the users who are interested in buying OnePlus 8, the 6GB + 128GB variant is available for ₹ 41,999. Others, the 8GB + 128GB version is priced at ₹ 44,999 and you can get the 12GB + 256GB in ₹ 49,999. It also comes in three colors, the Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow, and Onyx Black. While the 12GB + 256GB variant is available in all three colors, the 6GB + 128GB is available in only Glacial Green. The 8GB + 128GB is available in Glacial Green and Onyx Black.

Facebook’s New Audio Calling App – CatchUp

catchup

Facebook’s internal R&D group, NPE Team, has recently launched a new audio calling app called CatchUp. The company is currently testing CatchUp in the USA for some time on both Android and iOS platforms.

The new Facebook CatchUp app helps you to reach your friends, family, or relatives through a phone call, which can be extended to a group call, which can comprise up to 8 people. Although the app is specifically built only for Audio calls (i.e. no video calls), it’s not the only feature that the app bequeaths. As the app allows you to see if any person is available to talk just by looking at their status on the app.

More about Facebook CatchUp app

This feature is somewhat like the Houseparty app because this app also allows you to have details about who’s live at the moment by sending notifications when your friend opens the app.
The moment your friends, relatives, or family members open the app, it shows that specific user’s status as ‘Ready to Talk’ which is on the top section of the home screen and the moment he/she becomes offline the contacts status changes immediately.

Facebook says- ‘the main reason why people nowadays avoid making phone calls is that they don’t know if the person they are calling is free to talk or not. So, to not interrupt him/her when he/she might be engrossed in some other work, people usually avoid making phone calls.’ This is the sole reason why people nowadays prefer text messaging over phone calls.

Even though video calls are becoming very popular these days still phone calls are more convenient. As users can receive calls anytime, but can’t say the same for video calls as it asks you to be at least video ready.
Understanding all these needs, Facebook decided to launch this app, which could cater to all of the above-mentioned problems giving users an amazing calling experience.

They have kept the interface of the app like that of a normal phone calling. You can make and join a group call as you do on any other chatting apps. The process is not at all complex, it just requires a one-button tap for you to place a call. The users don’t require an existing Facebook account or an account with any Facebook-owned companies to have access to this app. The reason to keep the interface of this app so easy was to make it easy for the older users to have a better understanding and usage out of this app.

The idea for this app came even before the pandemic, but the process of development got into pace because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Let’s see how the public responds to this app even after having plenty of apps that comes with voice calling features, like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger itself.

How to Enable 960fps Slow Motion and Macro Mode in OnePlus 7 Pro Camera

Smartphone maker company OnePlus recently provided the OxygenOS Open Beta 3 update to its OnePlus 7T smartphone. In this update, OnePlus 7T users received a ‘secret’ 960fps slow-motion video recording option. According to XDA-developers, the feature is based on a “software-based frame interpolation technique”. You can enable this feature to older OnePlus phones also, that sport similar camera sensors and internal hardware.

XDA claims to have successfully enabled 960fps slow-motion support on the OnePlus 7 Pro. Not only the 960fps slow-motion support, it is also possible to unlock the macro mode in the 7 Pro smartphone. It is capable of utilizing both these features but these features are disabled on it by default.

Enabling 960fps Slow Motion in OnePlus 7 Pro

How to Enable 960fps Slow Motion and Macro Mode in OnePlus 7 Pro Camera
Image: Amazon

In a mod by a senior member of XDA-developers, he showed that it was possible to enable the new OnePlus 7T camera features on OnePlus 7 Pro also. You can enable 960fps slow-motion recording in the OnePlus 7 Pro by modifying the CameraInfo_0.xml and the CameraInfo_5.xml preference files of the stock camera app. You are required to add a new string called Video960FpsSizes with the value 1280×720. After saving the XML files, re-launch the camera. You will find another 960fps option on slow-motion mode, as on the OnePlus 7T.

Enabling Macro Mode in OnePlus 7 Pro

Also Read: Why OnePlus is Working to Disable the Infra-red Camera on OnePlus 8 Pro

OnePlus had already introduced the macro mode briefly on the OnePlus 7 Pro during the Android Q beta testing phase. However the feature didn’t make it to the stable version. You can enable this feature also by doing some minor changes in the XML file of the stock camera app. You can unlock it by changing the value of the IsUWMacroSupported variable inside the CameraInfo_3.xml file from false to true. This experiment was also carried out by an XDA team member. You should keep in mind that, like OnePlus 7T Pro, 7 Pro also uses the ultra-wide-angle camera to take macro photos. However 7 Pro lacks the added macro motor that the OnePlus 7T Pro has. So your improvements may vary on how well this mod works.

Note that, to unlock these features, you need to install the latest beta version of OnePlus Camera (v3.10.17 or higher) on your OnePlus 7 Pro. Besides, root access is also a mandatory prerequisite. You can use apps like Preferences Manager to perform these changes.

OnePlus Truly Wireless Earbuds may Launch in July as OnePlus Buds

OnePlus Truly Wireless Earbuds May Launch in July as OnePlus Buds

The smartphone maker company, OnePlus is working on its first truly wireless (TWS) earbuds product. It is planning to launch its OnePlus TWS earbuds in July alongside its rumored mid-segment smartphone, the OnePlus Z. Some reports in the past have indicated that the upcoming earbuds will feature Apple AirPods-like design. But in a new leak, it’s also revealed the official name of the upcoming product. As per the report, the company is said to call the upcoming TWS earbuds, “OnePlus Buds”. The report also goes on to share a new teaser image along with the design, and the name of the product.

OnePlus Buds Leaked Details

According to IndiaToday, leaker Max J tweeted a photo of the OnePlus Buds through a Twitter handle, @MaxJmb. This image comes with an illustration of the upcoming TWS earbuds with a written text “Buds.”

The new teaser image shows off truly wireless earbuds with Apple AirPods-like design. The design has been copied by several phone makers in the past few months including Realme, Vivo, and Oppo.

The image shared by Max J shows the buds are housed inside a case with a green LED in front. It is unclear whether the LED is to indicate charging and battery level or for showcasing the connectivity status. It is likely that the LED indicator will showcase both the connectivity status and charging level. Also, the earbuds will come with “L” and “R” marked on them to indicate which ear does it belong to. We do not have any other detail about the OnePlus Buds yet, but we expect the earbuds will come with modern features such as Google Assistant, fast-pairing with OnePlus devices, and support for touch controls.

The OnePlus Buds will add as one more audio product from the company to its existing audio products. The company had recently launched its latest wireless earphones, Bullets Wireless Z. Bullets Wireless Z came with some visual improvements over its predecessor.

Meet Robotic Face Mask That Opens and Closes Automatically When People are Around

Meet Robotic Face Mask That Opens and Closes Automatically When People Around
Image: YouTube

Because of the COVID19 pandemic, wearing a face mask has become a must thing to do in our life. It looks like it is going to be a routine part of our lives well into 2021. Wearing a face mask for an extended period indeed gets slightly uncomfortable. But to prevent bacteria and particles from coming into us, it becomes necessary to wear a mask all the time. This sometimes causes some people to feel like suffocating.

What if you feel thirsty and need to drink some water when people are around? Removing the mask in such situations may pose a high risk to your life. In such an attempt to make masks more comfortable, a YouTuber has uploaded a video where he demonstrates a robotic face mask that can automatically open to let fresh air in when no one’s around.

What Robotic Face Mask Does

Meet Robotic Face Mask That Opens and Closes Automatically When People Around
Image: YouTube

According to UberGizmo, a YouTuber called DesignMaker has created a robotic mask that comes with a dozen of electronic components, sensors, and LEDs. One of its main abilities is that it can automatically open when no one’s around and close when someone comes nearby. It is equipped with LEDs that indicate when it’s safe, and which side someone is coming. The sensors detect infrared emissions and motion around which close the lid of the mask with the help of a computer program. When there is no one around and safe, it will open up to allow for better airflow.

The practicality of such a mask may be questionable as it requires quite a lot of electronic components. Also, this type of mask will be quite heavier compared to regular surgical/N95 face masks. The unique thing about this is that it takes care of the need for us to take our masks on and off when we need to take a drink or to eat.

As we said, it doesn’t seem very practical for everyday use, but there is room for innovation always.
