Microsoft has brought back a popular feature to its Chromium-based web browser. Available to the users of Microsoft Edge Canary and Edge Dev channels, this feature allows users to choose from multiple options when they choose to download a file. Users working with builds version 87.0.629.0 are allowed to access this feature.

The feature was discussed in Microsoft’s new tech-community blog here. The feature was available in Edge’s legacy version. Now making its first appearance in the Chromium Based Microsoft Edge, the feature allows you to choose what you do to a file for download.

What’s new for Microsoft Edge users?

When downloading a file on the Microsoft Edge powered by Chromium, users will get access to four options. The first option, labeled ‘Open’, will download the file to a temporary folder and open it. This is useful for instances where you don’t wish to preserve the file for future use, as the folder will try to empty itself at the start of a new browser session.

The second option is labeled ‘Save as’. Choosing the option will open the file explorer, allowing you to choose details like the location for the download, name for the file and so on. The third option, available in the ellipsis menu, is similar to the second. Labeled ‘Save’, this option will download the file in the default Downloads location on your device. You can change the default location by accessing the Downloads settings in your browser.

The final option is ‘Cancel’. As the name suggests, it cancels your download. It is accessible through the ellipsis menu. It is helpful in an instance where you unintentionally clicked a download link. Further, Edge users are now able to delete downloaded files without having to exit the browser. To do so, one has to access the Downloads page on a supported Microsoft Edge build. Next, the users can right-click a previously downloaded file and choose to delete it.

Xbox All Access: Microsoft’s Best Move for Next-Gen Consoles

Xbox all access

In a day filled with announcements and leaks surrounding Xbox’s next-gen consoles, Microsoft introduced Xbox All Access. The announcement came after the leak of the prices of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. What’s more? The Xbox Series S reveal trailer was leaked on twitter by WalkingCat. Here is the original tweet that leaked the trailer.

The Xbox Series X is for players who are willing to pay for the highest graphics, priced at $499.99 to experience the best Xbox has to offer. On the other hand, Xbox Series S is the console for people who want to play without a care about graphics with its $299.99 price tag.

However, even with the two options, the consoles are still a sizable investment for many buyers. This is where Xbox All Access comes in the picture.

What does Xbox All Access bring?

With the special subscription program of Xbox All Access, anyone can experience the Xbox Series X console at just $35 per month. When getting the Xbox Series S console, this subscription fee falls to just $25 per month. With monthly payments being a norm for everything from streaming services to purchases, this is Microsoft’s way to make a statement.

But Microsoft has gone beyond providing the bare minimum. The subscription gives you a console, but that’s not all. It also provides you with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This gives you access to the Xbox Game Pass on both console and PC, along with Xbox Live Gold access on the console.

It means that you get access to the best hardware and the best games to play on your console. The global pandemic has affected the finances of families across the globe. This makes Xbox All Access the most accessible option for people looking to get into the console market. As we await potential reveals surrounding Sony’s PS5 on September 9, it is to be seen if Microsoft will face competition or seize a large chunk of the market with this move.

Audi is partnering with a Swiss company Climeworks to build the world’s largest direct air capture and storage facility. The facility will convert the atmospheric carbon dioxide to mineral rocks underground in Iceland. The companies are planning to filter over 4,000 metric tons of CO2 from the air and mineralize it underground. The Zurich-based startup will filter/remove 1,000 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere on behalf of Audi.

Tech Used in the Swiss CO2 Filter

Climrworks is using the direct air capture technology to extract the atmospheric carbon dioxide. The CO2 filter will capture the carbon dioxide from the ambient air and then release the CO2-free air back into the atmosphere. The new facility of the Swiss company in Iceland transports the captured carbon dioxide below the surface of Earth that that is then mineralized naturally. It is currently the most effective method to remove the CO2 from the atmosphere.

How the Air Filtering Facility Works

The filter first draws in the air from the atmosphere and then feeds it into the CO2 collector. The CO2 collector contains a specially developed absorbent which binds the CO2 from the air. After the filter gets saturated with CO2, it is heated up to 100⁰C to release the CO2 molecules from the absorbent. After this, the water transports the carbon dioxide to approximately 2,000 meters below the surface of Earth. The dissolved CO2 is now let there to naturally convert to carbonates through various mineralization processes with the basalt rock. The facility will filter 4,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the air every year, working 24 hours a day, every day.

Audi has been working with Climeworks since 2013 to support the development of CO2 capturing technology. The two companies had also built a facility in Hinwil, Switzerland two years ago. Audi and Climeworks had built it to filter atmospheric CO2 and provide it to the beverage industry two years ago. Audi is now extending its partnership with the environmental startup in Iceland to take it to the next level.

How to tell if your Phone is being Tracked, Tapped or Monitored by a Spy software

In this modern digital world, it is impossible to get privacy for you. Either in one way or another, someone will try to track you and your usage online. And most of this is done by your phone being tracked, tapped, or monitored. Although all of them could not be personal or political, some might have to do with data theft and marketing.

Not everyone is a skilled hacker or coder, so they have to use existing spyware in the market to spy on your phone. If so, there are many ways to find this.

How to tell if your Phone is being Tracked Tapped or Monitored by a Spy software

How To Tell If Your Phone Is Being Tracked, Tapped, or Monitored by a Spy Software

Phone warming up very quickly

All those processes running on the background will require a lot of processing power. So if there are any background spying activities, your phone will warm up pretty quickly even when not in use. This is the most common symptom of spyware running in the background.

Battery drains pretty quickly

Quick battery drains are common on aged phones. But if your phone is brand new and you experiencing faster battery drains all of a sudden, then there is a great chance that there is a background spying activity running. The heating up of your phone will also cause the battery to drain quickly. But most of the time, it should be the background process.

Hear unusual sounds while in calls

If you hear some unusual sounds like clicking, or some voices (usually as if in the distance), then it’s a definite sign of someone tapping your calls. Technology has grown a lot, especially in the phone calls department. So it’s not natural to get a broken or disordered voice in phone calls, especially when all calls nowadays are using VoLTE technology.

See a drastic increase in data usage

If your data usage is abnormal and enormous than usual, then this could be a sign of spyware running on your device. You’ll get such usage because the spyware is sending various data from your phone to the person who is tracking you. Hence this results in increased traffic.

As a result, you might also find your network speed is very slow and not as responsive. At least not fast as it was before. Normal apps like Youtube or Netflix will take much time to load because of engaged traffic.

Buying a new iPhone ? Know How to Transfer Contacts from Android to iPhone

Receiving unusual text messages

If someone has remote access to your phone, then he might be sending commands through your text messaging services. Because even if you’re not online or (internet), you’ll receive text messages through SMS services. So this would be the way for them to communicate with your phone. As a result, you may receive strange messages containing random texts or numbers.

Unusual text message

Sometimes you’ll receive calls from random numbers too, although the latter is uncommon.

The phone wakes automatically

When you lock your screen and keep your phone aside, then the phone should be in that condition unless it receives any calls or notifications. If you see your phone waking up without any notification or sound of any sort, then there is a chance that someone is having remote access to your device.

If your phone shows activity even if it’s not in use, this is a symptom of the phone being controlled by a third person.

Taking too long to shut down

The shutting down of your phone involves completely closing down your apps and services. So if there is any spyware running in the background, your phone will take longer than usual to shut itself down. If your phone is behaving like this, then there is a great possibility that there are Spywares working in the background.

How To Find Spyware On Your Device

If you think you have spyware running on your system, then you should confirm it before taking any destructive actions. If any spyware is installed, you can find it under the Apps list on your phone. Although the spyware will disguise itself under any other name and icon, we can somehow spot it.

For Android

Searching apps list: If the spyware is installed on your phone, you can check them by going into Settings>Apps and notification. Although in the list, the spyware wouldn’t show itself instead, it may show the icon and name of other legitimate apps.

App info page

You can also look into Battery > Battery Usage to track which app is using more battery. If you spot an app that you don’t use often using more battery, it might be the culprit.

App info page

Searching Running processes: If the spyware is running in the background, it might show up in the list of running processes in the settings app. Go to Settings > System > Developer options > Running processes. Look for any suspicious processes running. If any of them are running, remember it and remove it from the apps list.

App info page

Note: You have to enable Developer mode first by going into Settings > About phone and repeatedly tapping on the Build No.

For iPhone

The processes of installing spyware on the iPhone are trickier than android. Because the iPhone has a closed ecosystem. Because of that, the only way to install any app is through the Appstore. But some people can install certain apps after jailbreaking their iOS devices.

So if you spot any apps on your phone that you don’t remember installing, then there might be a chance that your phone is being tracked or tapped. Search if the app is available in the AppStore. If it’s not available, it must be spyware. So the best option to get rid of it is by updating your phone, as updating your phone will patch any previous exploits and will remove the spyware.

App info page

Note: Cydia or Pangu is not spyware. But these programs are used to jailbreak your iOS device to install the actual spyware.

From Expert’s Desk

So to conclude, these are the signs and symptoms you should look for if you think your phone is being tracked, tapped, or monitored by spyware. However, you have to be careful about what apps you install and from where you install it.

It is always recommended to get apps only from trusted sources like play store or AppStore.

If you find out that you were being spied, it is good to change all of your passwords using another device. Also, don’t forget to log out your phone from all sites and apps.

The final step on clearing will be performing a factory reset after backing up only the important stuff. It is also better to reinstall the official ROM or Flash file into the phone and remove the existing one. For more security, install the latest security patches in your phone.

Samsung Allegedly Developing Transparent Smartphones

Samsung’s latest move in the development of smartphone technologies might completely change how people interact with their mobile devices. Based on a patent labeled Transparent Display Device and the Method of Manufacturing the Same”, the tech giant appears to be working on the development of a fully transparent mobile device.

The patent is about OLED components and their use in developing transparent screens. You can read the entire patent application here. But the images in the patent application reveal a device with barely any opaque surfaces. Here is how the patent represents the finished device.

Samsung Patent

LetsGoDigital, in partnership with Giuseppe Spinelli (alias Snoreyn), has released 3D renders to demonstrate the concept. Here is how Samsung’s transparent smartphone can look.

What does this mean?

Two main questions that arise when reading the patent are how and why. The first part, how this design can be achieved, has multiple possible answers. To create the device illustrated in the patent, the company might suggest plans to miniaturize the components to fit them in the available space. But the other more likely explanation is the use of transparent mobile components.

Transparent batteries already exist. Hence their integration in a transparent smartphone is highly likely. However, the answer to why Samsung wishes to develop transparent smartphones is a bit less clear.

The smartphone market today has explored a wide range of innovations. It has forced companies to constantly look for new methods to stand apart from their competitors. In conclusion, Samsung’s transparent smartphone seems a product of this race of innovations.

Whether the innovation work wonders for Samsung, or end up in the list of failed experiments from smartphone manufacturers is to be seen. All tech enthusiasts can do for now is wait for new updates on the patent and the development process at Samsung.
