New Google Special Android Security Team Will Counter Bugs on the Play Store

In the recent news, the tech giant Google is reported to be creating a special Android Security Team. You wonder why! It is to increase the the security of apps present in Play Store. It aims to find bugs and vulnerabilities in high-sensitive apps available on the Google Play Store.

Sebastian Porst, Software Engineering Manager, Google Play Protect stated that the Special Android Security Team will primarily focus on COVID-19 contact tracing apps and election-related apps.

Besides that, the upcoming security team will only focus on apps that have over 100 million users.

“Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google’s users and developers.” as mentioned in Google’s career website.

The new android security team will do researches to find the vulnerabilities through the Google Play Security Reward Program (GPSRP).

Google Play Security Reward Program (GPSRP) is a vulnerability reward program. It runs in collaboration with the developers of popular Android apps. It aims to provide a safe environment by finding bugs and vulnerabilities in apps on the Play Store.

Joker Malware Threat

Unfortunately, Google has been struggling with its security system lately. Recently, 17 apps were removed from the Play Store as they were found to have Joker malware.

The Joker malware could bypass the Play Store security and cause threat to many apps in it. It is because this malware keeps on changing its code, execution methods, or payload-retrieving techniques to steal money and personal data.
