Google’s newly launched Pixel 5 recently started shipping to customers and already encountered a build-quality fail.
Some owners who received the new Pixel 5 complaint about seeing a wide gap between the phone’s display and aluminum frame. The gap is most prevalent above the front camera, on the top edge near the sim slot.
This problem might not be that big of an issue, but it can severely affect the phone’s IP68 water and dust resistance. Here are some pictures highlighting the issue on Pixel 5.
The reports suggest that these defects are present in phone right out of the box. So, it does not develop over time.
Some users who complain about this to the company got their phone replaced. However, there is no assurance if those new devices will not encounter this build quality issue.
The cases are kept on increasing on Pixel’s XDA form and Google’s official product form.
This is not the first Google Pixel device to struggle with the build-quality issue. Earlier, Google Pixel 2 XL struggled with oleophobic coating and other display-related issues. Moreover, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL had battery bloating issues.
Google is yet to comment on this issue. So, it is highly recommended to not get your hands on the newly launched Pixel 5 as of now.
