Google Maps is Preparing to Add a Language Changer and Google Assistant Driving Mode on Android

Google constantly improves its products and keeps adding new features on the way. Google Maps is no exception to this. The company started rolling out Google Assistant Driving Mode to some users earlier this month. However, this feature was still incomplete and did not work properly during that time. But now, XDA-Developers have found new strings in the latest version of Google Maps (v 10.53.1), which suggest Google is still working on the feature. The company is polishing the Google Assistant Driving Mode for a wider release. The developers have found these new strings in version 10.53.1 of Maps by reverse-engineering the application.

Those of you who don’t know what this means, let us inform you that the Google Assistant Driving Mode will replace Android Auto on smartphones soon. The feature brings with it a new navigation UI with large buttons and improved voice control. Also, the strings mention an opt-in dialog for the Google Assistant Driving Mode, as shown below.

New Strings Reveal Upcoming Features

As reported by XDA, the latest version of Google Maps also contain new strings which reveal that Google Maps is working on adding a language changer to its Android application. Though this feature already exists in the web version of Google Maps, bringing it to the Android app interface will be good help for many users. This suggests that the upcoming feature will allow Maps users to change the language on the app interface.

The upcoming language changer feature will give users an option to select their preferred language, and it will apply when the users restart the app. Also, the strings highlight that if there is some issue with the language change, it’ll pop up an appropriate error.

You should note that both of these features are not yet live in the current version of Google Maps. These strings are currently lying redundant in the source code of the latest version of Google Maps, and it may be removed by the developer if needed. We should wait for both the opt-in dialog for the Google Assistant Driving Mode and the language changer features to come through an official update.
