In partnership with Nerd Street Gamers, Spectacor Gaming, and G FUEL, the FTW Summer Showdown Valorant Tournament aims to put the strongest all-women teams in a quest for supremacy. With qualifiers set on September 5th, the showdown will see eight teams compete for the prize pool of $10,000.
Riot Games’ Valorant has made a name as the first direct competitor to Valve’s CS: GO in the competitive FPS genre. Hence, In a move to expand Valorant’s traction in the esports genre, Riot Games has been supporting third party tournaments. As a result, this has attracted the attention of some of the heavyweights of the global esports industry.
This year Riot Games sees Spectacor’s FTW: For The Women initiative hold the FTW Summer Showdown Valorant Tournament. This event is both a platform for Valorant esport and an effort to aid the inclusion of female gamers on the world esports stage.
What is the format of the tournament?
The tournament will feature seven professional roosters along with one amateur team. A $1000 prize-pool qualification tournament on the 5th of September 2020 will decide who gets the eighth slot. Any female interested teams can apply here for free. After that, qualifier matches will begin at 12:00 PM PT / 7:00 PM UTC / 4:00 AM JST (September 6).
These eight teams will feature at the FTW Summer Showdown finals on September 12th, 2020. Firstly, these teams will get seeded into two groups. Then the winners and runners-up of each group will proceed to enter the knockouts.
The knockout stage of the tournament will feature single tie elimination matches to decide who reigns supreme. This high stakes format of the event means a single loss in the knockouts means elimination. Hence every team will need to be at their best to claim the grand prize.

The event will stream live on September 12th, 2020. You can watch it on the Official Nerd Streets Gamers’ Twitch Channel. The stream will begin at 12:00 PM PT / 7:00 PM UTC / 4:00 AM JST (September 13).
