Google has introduced Macro Converter, a Google Workplace add-on for Google Sheets, that will help users convert Microsoft Excel files with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code to Sheets files and Apps Script.
To automate processes, many organizations use macros in Sheets and Excel. Using the Macro Conversion add-on, Google Workspace Enterprise customers can determine the compatibility of Excel files and help convert them where possible. This new add-on can help teams to recreate Microsoft Excel macros in Google Sheets, thereby helping them save time through automation — at the same time reducing the work needed to convert files.
Macro Converter Roll-out, Usage, and Availability
To get started, and begin converting Excel files to Google Sheets files, end-users need to download the Macro Converter Add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Admins can manage how users can use add-ons in their organization. Note that the add-on is already available for all users with Google Workspace Enterprise Plus and G Suite Enterprise for Education customers.
However, the Macro Conversion add-on is not yet available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Standard customers. Also, users with G Suite Basic, Business, Education, and Nonprofits customers won’t receive the feature at the moment.
