WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that’ll help the messaging platform to verify reported chats, groups, and business accounts. The messaging service has already released the feature in a beta update for Android beta testers. As per a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has rolled out a new beta update with version 2.20.206.3, which enables the new Report to WhatsApp feature in the app. In the previous beta update with version 2.20.206.2, we saw that WhatsApp is also working on another feature called Vacation Mode.
The new reporting feature will share a copy of recent messages with WhatsApp to verify the reported chats. It means that from now on, WhatsApp will know your latest conversation with the contact you reported. However, this feature is currently available only to beta testers with the latest version of WhatsApp Beta.
New Report Contact Feature Working
When you report a contact on WhatsApp, the WhatsApp backend elaborates your report considering several factors. These include things like the number of reports received from different users for that number, if the reported number is new to WhatsApp, and it has already received some reports, etc. It means that WhatsApp currently has no direct way to verify the reports report. But now, the company is working on a new way to report chats, groups, and business accounts that will enable WhatsApp to get a copy of recent messages from that chat.
“WhatsApp never receives your messages without your permission. If you decide to report a contact, you agree to forward a copy to WhatsApp of the recent messages from that chat,” said WABetaInfo in its report. With this feature, WhatsApp is introducing a new way to verify the reliability of reports from users.
Speaking of its availability across various devices, WhatsApp has already enabled the feature for Android beta testers through an update. For iOS beta testers, this new feature may roll out in the next few weeks, says the report. Further, we don’t know when it’ll be rolled in the official build of WhatsApp. But we expect it to come in the next updates soon.
